Airdrop Warnings
(MUST READ)

To register for the MWC airdrop, you will be required to sign a message, provided on the MWC registration site, that proves possession of a Bitcoin private key.  However, before you read about how to do so, it is VERY important that you understand the process of registration and claims. If you don’t follow the registration instructions perfectly, you may not be able to claim your MWC, or get less than you are entitled to.

Register ALL bitcoin public addresses

If you are using a hardware wallet like the Trezor, you may have Bitcoin in several addresses. During the registration process, you will be able to see how many Bitcoin are in each address you register. This number should add up to the total number you are holding on the device. Please make sure you don’t forget an address with a non-zero BTC balance.

SUMMARY: IF THE CUMULATIVE AMOUNT OF BITCOIN IN KNOWN ADDRESSES ON YOUR DEVICE IS LESS THAN THE TOTAL AMOUNT, IT IS LIKELY BECAUSE YOUR DEVICE SENT SOME TO CHANGE ADDRESSES.  IF SO, YOU CAN SEND ALL BITCOIN IN YOUR DEVICE/WALLET TO ONE ADDRESS IN YOUR DEVICE/WALLET BEFORE REGISTERING FOR THE AIRDROP; OR, ALTERNATIVELY, SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP, SUCH AS ROCKY PALUMBO AT JUSTLEARNBITCOIN.COM

Maintain Private Keys

Second, you will need to maintain access to your private keys (either directly or through the use of a hardware wallet) throughout the process, as you will need to sign a message TWICE - first, at registration for the airdrop; and second, to claim your MWC after the snapshot date. This means you must either keep the hardware device you are using (or backup recovery seed), or keep the private keys you are using for other wallets including paper wallets. You will NOT have to save message signatures, but you WILL have to sign twice.

SUMMARY: YOU MUST MAINTAIN YOUR PRIVATE KEYS AFTER REGISTRATION, UNTIL YOU HAVE SUCCESSFULLY CLAIMED YOUR MWC.

After Main-Net Launch

In order to claim the coins after main net launch, you will be asked, once again, to sign a message; thus, you will need access to your hardware device or keys at this time. The reason we are requiring a second signature is for your security. It ensures that no one steals your password and is an added layer that ensures the coins are dispersed fairly.

SUMMARY: YOU WILL NOT BE REQUIRED TO SAVE MESSAGE SIGNATURES. HOWEVER, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO SIGN MESSAGES FOR EACH REGISTERED NON-ZERO BALANCE BTC ADDRESS TWICE – ONCE, WHEN REGISTERING; AND AGAIN, TO CLAIM YOUR MWC.

BTC Must Be In Registered Addresses At Time Of Snapshot

Since the snapshot date is July 19, 2019 you will need to make sure your Bitcoin is at the addresses you registered on that date. The exact time will be published later, but it’s suggested you don’t move your BTC from registered addresses until the next day at the very least. As mentioned previously, you will need to sign a second message from registered addresses after the snapshot date, upon main net launch to claim your coins. Thus, you must maintain access to the same hardware device you registered with, or your private keys, until you claim the MWC.

SUMMARY: IF YOU MOVE BTC FROM REGISTERED ADDRESSES BEFORE THE SNAPSHOT DATE, YOU MUST RETURN IT FOR THE JULY 19TH, 2019 SNAPSHOT!

Understand BTC Change Addresses

It is VERY important to understand that due to the way most Bitcoin wallets are implemented, it is very possible that addresses you THINK have Bitcoin in them do not. Essentially, Bitcoin wallets create “change addresses” each time you send Bitcoin from your wallet, that may send some or all of your Bitcoin to DIFFERENT addresses within your wallet, that don’t show up on the viewscreen.  Fortunately, MWC’s airdrop registration will have a feature that tells you how much Bitcoin each address you register contained.  If the total Bitcoin in the addresses registered is less than the total in your device, the balance is most likely held on change addresses.

If this is the case, you can BEFORE you register, send all Bitcoin in your device/wallet to yourself, to a single address in that device/wallet.  In other words, consolidate all Bitcoin in that device/wallet to the same address – enabling you to register just ONE BTC address, to claim ALL your MWC.  Or, if you feel more comfortable, you can seek expert help, such as Rocky Palumbo at http://www.justlearnbitcoin.com/packages.html.

No Registration Caps, No "First Come, First Serve" Distribution

It has been decided by the dev team that ALL of the six million MWC allocated for the airdrop will be distributed, regardless of how much Bitcoin is registered.  In other words, there are NO CAPS on how much you can claim, and the airdrop will NOT be distributed on a “first come, first serve” basis.  Thus, there is no need to split Bitcoin into multiple addresses or wallets to increase your registered amount, or to be the first person to register.

SUMMARY: THERE IS NO CAP TO HOW MUCH MWC YOU CAN CLAIM, AND THE AIRDROP WILL NOT BE PROCESSED ON A “FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE” BASIS.  THUS, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE FIRST, OR SPLIT YOUR BITCOIN INTO MULTIPLE ADDRESSES OR WALLETS.

Understanding The Snapshot

The MWC you have registered for is based SOLELY on how much BTC is held in registered addresses on the 7/19 snapshot date. Due to the length of the registration period, the chance BTC will be moved from registered addresses is higher than other airdrops.  Because there is no registration cap or “first come, first serve distribution,” you can move BTC in and out of registered addresses BEFORE THE SNAPSHOT DATE.  All that matters is how much BTC is in the registered address at the snapshot.  Whether it’s more or less than the amount that was there when the address was registered is immaterial, as ONLY the BTC that is in the address AT THE SNAPSHOT can be used to claim MWC.  To make the process easier, there will be a link to the BTC blockchain on the verification page, where you can check how much BTC is on each address at any given time.
